The University of Chicago Medical Center asked us to partner with them again and curate a display of quilts in the hospital as part of their ongoing public displays of art from the community and beyond.
In the past, we have shown themed works and pre-existing works from our guild members BUT this time we will be doing a challenge. Members of the guild are invited to make works of ANY size (from teeny tiny minis to great big king size bed quilts) on the subject of science and medicine — including the greater medical field, and not just the medicine you take.
The idea is to create a modern quilt that has to do with those broad themes, and members may enter any quilts they already have made that might fit that theme. It is also OK to enter a quilt that is from an existing pattern.
Did you make a super awesome periodic table of the elements quilt? Have you ever made the “Science Fair” quilt by Jaybird Quilts? Did you make a Fancy Tiger “Constellation” quilt? Were you inspired by elements of nature in a science feeling way? Our hope is that this broad topic stimulates a lot of creativity!
We plan to hang the Quiltcon charity quilt as part of the show.
Quilts will need to be finished by March 1, 2019, but we will keep the guild (and especially those who sign up for the challenge) posted as time moves along.
All meetings are 2-5 pm on the third Sunday of the month, unless otherwise noted.
This month’s meeting is on Sunday, September 16
Meeting location:
