What a wonderful November meeting we had! Chicago Modern Quilt Guild was pleased to host quilter Cheryl Sleboda as our guest speaker for our November meeting. Cheryl is the creative force and teacher behind muppin.com.

Her lecture was titled “Working Weekly: Staying Inspired.”  For five years Cheryl challenged herself to complete one small quilt per week.  Through this practice she was able to experiment with many different materials and techniques.  Sometimes she discovered things she did not enjoy, and other times she discovered things she loved.  Most notably, she fell in love with fabric manipulation and including LED lights in her quilts.

As she continued to explore through her weekly quilts, she was able to further her skills and eventually become an expert and innovator in these techniques.  From there, she was able to take advantage of opportunities to share her expertise in publications and on Quilting Arts TV!

It was inspiring to hear Cheryl share her journey from curious quilter to an innovator and educator in the quilt world.  Many of us left thinking about how we might challenge ourselves to work in a similar way, and discover what techniques we are truly passionate about as quilters.  As a bonus we got to see and touch over 200 of Cheryl’s small quilts!  Thank you for sharing with us, Cheryl.

Be sure to check out muppin.com to see all of Cheryl’s quilts and great tutorials.
