We have some amazing medallion quilts being created!
It’s great have so many of you participating and see the progress each month. Our show and tell at the meeting was fantastic! There was also a flurry of medallion work at the retreat this month, adding to the inspiration we’ve seen so far on Instagram. (#chicagomqgmedallion)
This month’s border includes both a solid strip to increase the block size and an improv triangle border.

Some helpful hints on this month’s instructions:
Step 1: The first strip of the border is not pictured on the coloring sheet. You may choose to use it or not, but read the note at the end of the instructions.
Step 3: When sewing the 3.5” small squares to the 6” squares, make sure your corner square will extend over the corner of the 6” square after it is stitched and pressed. A 6” or 6.5” square ruler really helps to resquare the corners.
Step 5: Use the 45 degree line on your cutting mat to help line up the triangles for trimming.

Step 6: When sewing the triangles together offset the seams by 1⁄4”.
Steps 7 & 8: The bias edges are both a help and a hindrance in these steps. Use the bias to help ease the seams to match, but be careful not to stretch the seam too much. For the inset seam, backstitch the seam at each inside corner. When sewing all borders, mark and match the centers, then the ends, then ease as needed to match the rest of the seam.
