Here we go with the first border for our Medallion Quilt Along!
It was great to see and hear about some of the center blocks you’ve been making at Sunday’s Sew In!
Many of them are on Instagram using #chicagomqgmedallion:
We’re going to have some amazing and unique quilts.
If you haven’t made a center block yet, don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to get started. Remember, this is a no pressure, work at your own pace, have fun with it project. Join when you’re ready, add as many or as few borders as you want, or make adjustments to make it your own!

Ready, set, quilt!
February Instructions Border 1:
We’ve been given permission from the Seattle MQG to use their instructions from their 2015 Medallion Quilt Along – here are their instructions from February last year:
***We have some additional notes to build on Seattle’s instructions:
Notes for Step 2
You will be making 4 sets (borders) using the instructions
If making scrappy borders:
Use individual squares technique to piece border, sew 2 squares together to make 7 pairs, continue to
step 3
If making border with 2 fabrics:
Use strip technique, then continue to step 3
Notes for Step 3
Make 4 border sets. Use arrangement shown, or
Option: rotate pair units to make a zig zag look border
Leave 2 border strips at 15.5”
Add 2.5” squares to the ends of 2 border strips to make 19.5” borders
Sew borders to center block, first 15.5” to opposite sides, then 19.5” to remaining sides.
Finished square size: 19.5”
