We had such an exciting May at the Chicago Modern Quilt Guild. Maday Delgaldo visited from Wisconsin. She taught 17 quilters at Quilters Quest in Downers Grove about The Chaos of Perfection. Each of us stitched our own mini quilt from scraps and when put down together you could see they made a perfectly imperfect quilt of their own. It was such a beautiful way to spend a Saturday.
At the meeting on Sunday, 35 of us gathered to see the beautiful quilts Maday has stitched over the years using a variety of techniques. She spoke about how the city inspires her in all its dirty imperfect, noisy chaos; about growing up in Cuba and how she has created amazing work from things others tend to discard.
After an inspiring lecture, Diane Paquin Provost introduced a sustainability challenge called “Take The Shirt Off My Back.” This is for members only and is intended to coincide with our 15 year anniversary celebration. Details will be in the next Full Bobbin newsletter. Jane Shaprio also introduced a new charity quilt that will be made with mostly scraps and is meant to bring pods of members together all over the city. More details for this will also be in the Full Bobbin.
