March 2024 Meeting Recap: How to Quilt It?

March 22, 2024

Voting in Board Members

March is the time for voting and our guild participates by electing new board members this month. Unanimously voted in for the 2024/2025 Board:

  • President Carolyn Strug
  • Vice President Ellen Pommes
  • Treasurer Natalie Holtz
  • Secretary Sarah Walker
  • Communications Jenni Grover
  • Membership Sam Luchsinger
  • Retreats Omoleye Roberts
  • Special Events Diane Pacquin-Provost
  • Programming Amy Struckmeyer

President Carolyn Strug will lead this group, moving from her post as Vice President to President. She has already put her original spin on Show and Tell!

Take the Shirt of Your Back Challenge

Diane, who has been heading up the Take the Shirt of Your Back Challenge, presented the awards for First and Second place judged by Kim Soper of Feel Good Fibers. Members also voted for Member’s Choice and a blind pull of all participants yielded the winner of Participation. You can check out Diane’s post in our Facebook group and see the adorable medallions she made as well. Congratulations to Catherine, Jenni, Jane and all our honorable mentions! The challenge was such a success and we can’t wait to see it hanging at the Skokie Library in June and July.

Programming: How to Quilt It?

Amy Struckmeyer then introduced the panelists for the How to Quilt It? Program. Sarah Evans led us through types of batting and long arming, Emily Lang spoke about how to begin Free Motion Quilting and Sam Luchsinger took us through a little bit of hand quilting. Amy Struckmeyer talked about her set up for Walking Foot Quilting. Members brought in their own finished tops they were indecisive about. The whole room then had a chance to chat about what they saw in how to quilt it. The suggestions were amazing and everyone provided a little bit of knowledge. It was a round table celebration of all things quilting!

Join us next month — April 21 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM — in Oak Park for more fun and games with the Quilt Olympics!
