March 2017 – Meeting Recap & Special Announcements

March 24, 2017
The topic of our meeting this month was “Simply Solids: A Comparative Analysis of Solids Manufacturers” and was presented by our Program and Special Events Chairperson Heather Kinion.

Heather began her discussion on how fabric is produced.  Greige goods are the base for cotton fabric and their quality depends on the cotton variety, the staple, the fiber, and the thread count or weave.  Heather had plenty of samples on hand so members can “see and feel the difference” as each manufacturer varies.

Many manufacturers were kind enough to provide bundles of fabric and fabric cards so she was able to get in touch with her inner “Oprah” and hand out some AMAZING prizes.  We would like to thank the following manufacturers for their generosity:  (In parentheses are shops where you can purchase the fabric in the Chicagoland area.  If not available locally, an online retailer is provided though many more do exist.)
