June Meeting & Workshop: Jacquie Gering

April 19, 2017
The Chicago MQG is thrilled to be hosting the Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Modern Quilt Guild and our former guild mate, Jacquie Gering, for a workshop and lecture in June.

Jacquie co-founded the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, to which she returned after a stint in Chicago. She is the co-author (with Katie Pederson) of Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts and the new book WALK: Master Machine Quilting with Your Walking Foot. She has taught classes on Craftsy, at Quiltcon, and all over the United States and beyond.

The workshop, “Creative Quilting With the Walking Foot,” will be an all-day intensive at Loyola University’s Lake Shore Campus on Saturday, June 24 from 10am-5pm with a box lunch included.

Jacquie’s lecture will be a special event on Sunday, June 25 at 3:30pm at the First Free Church of Chicago 5255 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL in the undercroft. It will not be a guild business meeting, and we will not have show and tell or guild business. The event will focus on Jacquie’s lecture, “Modern Quilting: You’ll Know It When You See It,” and a trunk show. It is free to members, and $10 for non-members.

Workshop description:

Want to quilt your quilts on your home machine, and maybe free motion quilting isn’t for you? Come discover the joy and creative possibilities of quilting with your walking foot. Straight-line quilting has a long history and is making a comeback in both modern and traditional quilts. Learn tips and tricks for successful quilting with your walking foot along with creative quilting designs that can be accomplished on your home machine.

The workshop will be capped at 20 students, and registration will be first come, first served starting Saturday, May 6 at 10am CDT for Chicago MQG members. The cost: $75.

If there are still spots available, registration will be opened to the public on Saturday, May 27. The workshop registration will be open to non-members for $95. We will create a waiting list once the workshop is filled. Please see our guild’s rule page for more details regarding registering for workshops.

Workshop registration:

The workshop registration link will go live Saturday, May 6 at 10am CDT in the Chicago MQG group on the MQG website, so please be sure you can access your account in advance of registration.
