June 2024 Recap: All About Pouches

June 27, 2024

President Carolyn Strug welcomed attendees.

  • There will be a trip to see Heidi Parks’ exhibit in Milwaukee on Saturday, September 28 organized by Amanda and Heather.
  • The MQG Make a Difference challenge will be pollinator themed and is due in August.
  • Jenni Grover informed us of the passing of Bob Shulman.
  • Diane Paquin-Provost reminded us that the Take the Shirt Off My Back challenge quilts are now hanging at the Skokie library. July 18th is the associated reception and the meeting on July 21st will be at the library.
  • Sarah Evans said that the design for the community quilt for QuiltCon 2025 will be shown at the next meeting and they will ask for sew-in hosts.
  • Amy Struckmeyer announced the pouch swap. Signups are open until June 22nd and due at the August meeting.
  • Jenni and Holly gave gifts to the outgoing board members.
  • There will be a workshop with Cassandra Beaver on September 14th at Thimbles in Lockport. Registration will open on July 6th.

There were three pouch demonstrations by Susan Holderread, Lynn Bailey, and Angie Wright — thanks for all the demos, y’all!

Angie demonstrated the Wee Braw Bag by Sweet Cinnamon Roses. You can make it many sizes and it’s great for using up scraps!

Lynn demonstrated how she uses Heat n Bond vinyl to turn all kinds of things into pouches (including children’s book pages, magazine covers, chip and candy bags… and more).

Susan Holderread demonstrated the Trixie Zip Pouch, which she’s made in many sizes and styles with a variety of substrates.

Plus we had a big table of pouch examples for folks to explore!

Final Notes

As usual, we had a robust Member Show and Tell with a little time to socialize. Hooray!

See you at our next meeting on July 21, which will be a sew-in at the Skokie Public Library. Get all the details here.
