the wonderful Chawne Kimber |
The Chicago Modern Quilt Guild started the New Year off on a high note. We hosted Chawne Kimber for a lecture / trunk show. Chawne was amazing and her discussion began as a child where she described her family and where she grew up and how she started sewing. Today, Chawne is most noted for her social justice quilts and her teeny tiny piecing. As she was discussing her artistic journey she would show us quilts along the way that were sparked by recent events. Either personal or in the news. She also talked about she integrates her day job as a Math Professor with being an artist. She passed around a sample of her tiny piecing and YES it’s really tiny! It was a WONDERFUL afternoon. THANK YOU so very much for visiting our guild.
Our guild t-shirts and hoodies arrived today! Late last year we hosted a design contest for a limited edition logo. The intent was not to re-brand our guild but to simply have a limited edition logo so we can have some new, awesome shirts. The winning design was by Laura McDowell-Hopper (right) and is based on the Chicago flag. How amazing does she look wearing her own design. The ordering and distribution of the shirts was done by our Treasurer Dani Miller (left).
Due to inclement weather, we had to cancel our December 2016 meeting. So today we had our gift exchange. It was a blind swap. Which means if you bring a gift you receive a gift. All gifts were handmade and wrapped so beautifully. Participating members seemed pleased with their gifts.
We then ended the meeting with some Show and Tell. Refer to our guilds Instagram account (@chicagomqg or click on the Instagram logo at the top of this page) to see some amazing quilts made by our members.
