August 16 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Kick off our summer potluck with an afternoon of color, creativity, and community! We will gather at LaBagh Woods, Shelter 4 to create something unexpected at the Ice Dye Bar, mend with style at the Sashiko Station, and celebrate the joy of improvisational making together. Don’t forget to bring your stash for the fabric swap, and your latest creations for Show & Tell.
Sign up here to bring a potluck item and indicate if you plan to ice dye.
Activity One: Sashiko Station
Add texture, pattern, and personality with the timeless art of sashiko stitching. We’ll have water-soluble stick-on patterns, thread, needles, and practice fabric ready to go. Or bring a favorite textile, garment, or accessory to embellish with your own unique stitched details. If you prefer to bring a current project and stitch alongside your fellow makers, go for it.

Activity Two: Ice Dye Bar
Bring an item from home that’s ready for a colorful transformation! Almost anything made from natural fibers works well, so feel free to get creative. Here are some ideas.
- Tank, T-shirt or button-up shirt
- Tea towel
- Scarf or bandana
- Tote bag
- Fat quarters or up to a yard of fabric
- Napkins, socks, or another creative favorite
This activity is all about playful experimentation and improvisational creativity, so don’t worry about making it perfect. Every fold, twist, and tie creates a one-of-a-kind surprise!
We’ll have the dyes, gloves, rubber bands, tools and supplies, you just bring:
- One item to dye
- A plastic bag large enough to take your damp creation home

Not sure how to fold or tie your item? Peta and Barb will be on hand with ideas and suggestions for different tying techniques to help you create everything from bold spirals and sunbursts to completely unexpected improvisational patterns. Come ready to play with color, embrace happy accidents, and leave with something uniquely yours. No two creations will ever be the same, and that’s part of the fun!
