December 2018 Meeting Recap

January 8, 2019
We had a fun sociable afternoon together with sweet, savory, and yummy treats brought in by the members in attendance. Thank you, everyone, for such a variety again this year and to Jen Beatty for coordinating.
Thirty-two members participated in our holiday swap. Some of the handmade gifts that went home with members included baskets, pin cushions, table runners, pot holders, pouches, coasters and more!

Our finished QuiltCon charity quilt!

Our QuiltCon 2019 Charity Quilt is completed and was revealed! Thank you to all the members who had a hand in creating our beautiful quilt which will be on display at QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville in February.

Over 60 members renewed their membership early and were eligible to win one of three fabulous fabric bundles created from our guild’s charity fabric stash. All three winners just happened to be present at the meeting, even though you did not need to be. We do accept new members year-round, and your membership to Chicago Modern also includes your membership to the National Modern Quilt Guild.

The Full Bobbin Monthly Newsletter Info

We all hope you are enjoying our monthly newsletter, “The Full Bobbin.” If you are in a quilt show or magazine, have a teaching gig, or are hosting an event we want to know about it. Please make sure to contact Social Media and Communications Chairperson Jenni Grover so it can be included. Also, contact Jenni if are a new member and you have yet received an issue.
Check out our fun feature to The Full Bobbin, “Get Your Quilty Wishes Granted,” based on the popular Instagram hashtag #getyourquiltywishesgranted. If you are unfamiliar, let’s say you are working on a particular project and need more yellow scraps or need more eye spy fabrics or whatever, send an email to the Full Bobbin (just hit reply on a previous issue of the Full Bobbin) with your name and what you are looking for. Each month we will publish as many as we can. Members can then bring the items to the next meeting. It’s a fun way to pass along something you may not need, but another quilter can use.

Other News

If you are interested in joining our board, please contact our Vice President Laura McDowell-Hopper for more information regarding any of our board positions including our soon-to-be-newest position of retreat coordinator (tentative name as we need to vote on this at our January meeting).
Signups are still open for our partnership with the University of Chicago Medical Center to present a Science and Medicine Quilt Challenge that will result in a Chicago Modern Quilt Guild show hanging in one of their public art galleries inside the hospital and its surrounding campus. The exact location will be decided once the number and size of the entered quilts is narrowed down, but please check a previous blog post for the specific dates and the sign-up link.
We have a local Modern Quilt Junior Group in Evanston. It is coordinated by our member Shannon Dangerfield. If you have extra fabric or notions that you would like to donate, please bring them to any guild meeting. If Shannon is unable to attend, we will make sure the donations get to her.
