August Meeting Recap!

August 29, 2016
Our August meeting was a Summer Potluck and Social. Members contributed some fabulous food. We ate, we socialized, and we sewed. It was a GREAT afternoon!!!!!!

Medallion Quilt Along:
Guild member, Sarah Shulman, discussed our Medallion Quilt Along. This month, she showed us several methods to create flying geese blocks. This is a year long project with a new border (or two) being added each month. To get more information, click on the “Medallion Quilt Along” button found on the right side bar.

QuiltCon 2017 Charity Quilt:
Our biggest and most exciting news of the meeting is that the CMQG will be making a charity quilt to be displayed at QuiltCon 2017. Members, Emily Handley and Melissa Bogusch, will be leading this effort. The MQG’s theme is “crafting a design that plays with scale”. Their design concept is based on Charles and Ray Eames – 1977 Power of Ten.

Click here to watch a video on the Eames’ “Power of 10”!

They’ve designed 15 unique blocks from scenes found in the video below. The blocks use different quilting techniques (english paper piecing, foundation paper piecing, applique, etc..) and require different levels of difficulty. They are asking members to make blocks. If you are interested in participating, please contact Emily and Melissa at chicagomodernqg@gmail.com.

We then ended the meeting with some Show and Tell.  Refer to our guilds Instagram account (@chicagomqg or click on the “On Instagram” picture in the right side bar) to see some amazing quilts (including Medallion quilts) made by our members
