April Meeting Recap and Announcements

May 8, 2018

Tara created her Wefty Needle out of necessity – she was weaving projects but no tools she tried really worked as well as she wished.

Tara Curtis came to town with her fabulous Wefty Needle and we were privileged to see the evolution of this tool from its inception to the form it takes today. Tara brought several samples to show some of the different ways fabric can be woven.

This woven ombre star pillow uses the same pattern many of us learned in Tara’s workshop the day before.
This tote bag taught Tara lessons about density and width of strips.

The best part was seeing all the work from the previous day’s class – many of us who were not able to attend the workshop were inspired to take home a set of needles and give it a shot (of course mine are still in the package….but we look forward to seeing everyone else’s projects!)

Tara shows off a reversible woven piece.

After a break, we had a lovely show and tell session. A few highlights:

Members showed off their creations from the workshop on Saturday:

Dianne showed off a beautiful finished quilt:

Kate showed us a fun finish:

And Erin showed off her make (a hoodie, modeled by her daughter Audrey) while Audrey read us an essay about making her first quilt and how much she loves sewing. So cute!
… and many more. Check us out on Instagram or Facebook to see more photos from each meeting and event.

Announcements:

We have a new board as of April. Here’s the roster of board members.

Our next programming meeting is at 12pm before our regular meeting on May 20, at Rush Oak Park Hospital, either in the snack room or the main meeting room. Drop in for the whole meeting, or any portion of it. We welcome your ideas!

We have updated our meeting schedule and added in a couple special events. Please see the meeting schedule page for all the details.

We continue to have charity projects in the works; we’ll have more announcements on that coming soon.

We’re always looking for news to include in The Full Bobbin, our guild newsletter. Please email Jenni, our social media and communications chair, if you have feedback or contributions.

And as always, the board of CMQG welcomes your feedback, ideas, and contributions. If you have anything to share, don’t be shy – send us an email (or come talk to us at the next meeting).

All meetings are 2-5 pm on the third Sunday of the month, unless otherwise noted.
