We had an exciting and informative meeting this April. It was the first in-person meeting headed by our new president Ariel Norquist. We also learned that wearing masks at Rush is optional. The guild board will be taking our member’s opinions into consideration about whether to continue masking at in-person meetings. If you have thoughts, please reach out to Ariel.
During our meeting, guild members Laura Hartrich, Emily Lang, Katie Cooper and Adamandia Kapsalis presented different ways of finishing quilts. We moved around the space in groups, visiting each technique.
Laura told us all about labels and showed off her ways writing, embroidering and even creating fabric envelopes for her own labels.
Adamandia had her father’s trusty vintage staple gun on hand to demonstrate how to stretch a quilted piece like a canvas.
Katie brought her machine and demonstrated in steps how to make your own binding then machine bind and hand-sew a binding on, complete with a hack on getting perfect corners every time and a way to measure your binding correctly.
Emily showed us how to face a quilt and proved that no matter how much you think you know there is always more to learn with many different ways to get a good result.
We enjoyed a variety of beautiful show and tell quilts and had ample time at the end for plenty of socializing! We hope to see ya’ll at next month’s meeting for Maday’s presentation.
