Chicago Modern Quilt Guild really knows how to show up for its members. We had a full house plus many guests for our mini member quilt show this January.
The beauty of the mini member show is that it showcases a variety of talents and puts the spotlight on our wonderful members.
Jen Beatty brought us into her scrappy and colorful world.
Rob Stoll took us around the world with the fabrics in his quilts.
Carolyn Strug showed us that a quilt can take as little as a month or many years to be completed.
Sarah Walker wowed us with her willingness to try new techniques and love for people in her life as she makes quilts for all of them.
A big thank you to Holly Harper for putting this all together. As she said, “Some of our members make one quilt, some quilters make a quilt week; there’s room in our guild for all.”
Take the Shirt Off My Back challenge
Meanwhile the room was abuzz because it was the deadline for the “Take the Shirt of My Back” challenge spearheaded by special events chair Diane Paquin-Provost. Everyone was stitching up their binding and labels. And once again, we showed up! Amy O. deserves a special shoutout for having deboned many a-shirt and then offering them up to members in November to take part in this challenge.
We had 38 entries and at this meeting most of us had a chance to show them off before they are shown publicly. Diane will be announcing soon where this show is traveling to. It is sure to stun everyone that gets a chance to see. It was really special to hear the stories and meanings behind each piece.
Keep your eyes peeled for a HUGE blog post coming with all the quilts, award winners and more.
Show & Tell
Show & Tell after that was a bit of a speed game but there is never a lack of cheering and appreciative ooo’s and aah’s from the crowd. We had SO MANY QUILTS! Here’s a taste of the line-up — only about 25% of those who had quilts to show:
Announcements
Before next month’s member meeting there will be a board meeting beforehand beginning at noon. Guild members are welcome to attend.
Don’t forget to help Jenni make our Full Bobbin newsletter chock full by sending what you are doing (teaching, showing, making, successes, celebrations) by sending them to her.
We hope to see you all again in February for Sue Pawlowski.
